Activities

At Las Catalinas:

There are numerous onsite activities to keep you busy

Hiking/Nature Walks

Grab a map and enjoy the 1000+ acres of maintained trails. Be aware there are specified hiking trails, but keep a look out for bikers on all other trails. Pick a different section a day and enjoy. Go early and bring plenty of water. There is also a trail forks app.

Mountain Biking

Mountain bike and e-bike rentals available at Pura Vida Ride Shop intown. One tip is to pay a little more and get an evening session in as well as a morning session for a little over your standard day rental.

Beach Club

Relax at the oceanfront front beach club. Lap pool, family pool, adult pool and hot tub all serviced by the restaurant/bar both poolside or at tables.

Kayak/ Paddle Board/Boogie Board

Pura Vida Ride also has various kayaks, paddle boards and boogie boards available to get out on the water. Watch the weather and go early or late in the day when the seas/wind are calm. This will make it more enjoyable and the water will be much more clear.

Snorkeling:

Bring your own gear and enjoy the reef snorkeling. Our favorite two areas are the rocks along the left side of the bay and also on either side of Playa Dantita far off on the right.

Fishing:

No permit required to shore fish in Costa. So bring a travel pole and enjoy some surf fishing or hike out on the rocks.

Gym/Yoga

Sign up for Chak Fitness outdoor Gym/class or if visiting the beach club ask to use the gym.

Center of Joy

Look at their weekly classes or offerings.

....and of course The Beach!

Tours/Offsite Activities:

Too many off site activities to even begin to list in Costa Rica. Here are a few that we like, but we encourage you to do your research early and contact them prior to your arrival. That way if you choose to do one, wheels are in motion.

Fishing Charter:

Many fishing charters available with boats of all sizes. Be sure to ask, because some of them will pick you up right from LC beach without charging extra. Pick a boat that leaves from Flamingo/Potrero to avoid a long drive. Check the seasons, but mahi, snapper, tuna, rooster, wahoo, marlin etc all run in these waters.

Wet Ass

Kayak Fishing:

Give Walter a call and he will take you out in Potrero Bay. Good way to get in the action with both live bait and lures without spending as much on a boat. Also a good way to get fishing without the 5-10 hr commitment.

Surfing:

World class surfing available within a short drive. Playa Grande is 20 min drive away and is the closest, quality option. There are a couple of board rental options there to make it even easier...we like Frijoles Locos. We also like Playa Avellenas and Tamarindo (45min-1 hr) for places where you can take a day trip and chill at a restaurant/bar in front of surf. If you know what your doing, Witches Rock tours available, as well as 1-2 hours to lots of great spots.

Diving:

We are not into diving, but nearby Catalinas Islands offer some unique Pacific Ocean experiences. One nearby location is

Diving in Costa Rica | Diving tours and PADI Courses | The best diving in Costa Rica | SCDR (scubadivecostarica.cr)

Sailing Center:

Check out the Sailing Center next to Hemingway's in Potrero. Multiple ocean activities available.

Catamaran Tours:

Sunset or snorkel catamaran tours available with lots of different boat options.

Manta Ray Sailing/Private Charters Manta Ray II and The Bali are the nicest boats around.

Panache Sailing

Lazy Lizard

Golf:

Reserva Conchal - 20 min

Hacienda Panilla - 1 hr

4 Seasons Papagayo

Day Trips

Its easy to stay in LC, but if you wish to get out, there are too many options to list. Do some research beforehand or ask around while your here.

Tamarindo:

45 min drive. Tons of shops, lots of bars and restaurants, great beach and sunset, beginner surf, skatepark, food trailer park, nightlife. Lots of tourists but not too resorty. Drive past Tamarindo a few minutes to the slightly less crowded Playa Langosta.

Our Favorite:

Lola's @ Playa Avellenas - Just over 1hr drive  (20 min on dirt road- no 4x4 needed). Great bar and restaurant on the ocean with palm trees, comfortable seating, good food etc. Surfboard rentals and instructors onsite. Can be busy, but plenty long to get some space.
